APPRECIATION

So far Zoe seems frustrated with her parents’ omnipotence and omniscience! It’s certainly a big part of the parenting dynamic but only represents a small fraction of what goes on everyday. At this point in the book, Zoe turns her attention to those parts of her parents’ powers that she actually appreciates.

The dichotomy of frustration and appreciation is something that I think exists in all families. Starting off your day grateful, being frustrated by midday then ending with love at night is an all too common arc of emotion that we all experience. These pages are a pivotal moment in the book for that reason as it introduces the idea that us “parents” aren’t all bad after all and sets up “the feels” to come! This turning point in the narrative is important for a number of reasons. My ambition when writing this book was to capture the normalcy of the ups and downs of parenting but set within a warm, character-driven setting that leaves both parents and children empowered. I hope I succeed…

Super Ambitious,
